Rahul Bhola, MD, MBA, FAAP is Chair of Ophthalmology, Medical Director, and Division Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Bhola is also Associate Clinical Professor at University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Bhola completed his medical training and first Residency in Ophthalmology from University of Delhi, India. He subsequently finished a second residency in Ophthalmology in the US and research and clinical fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology from Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA and University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics respectively. He also completed an MBA in Healthcare from University of California, Irvine. He also has a certification in Artificial Intelligence from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr. Bhola has held many leadership roles both at national and international organizations. He was the immediate past editor-in-chief of pediatric section of Ophthalmic News and Education (ONE) network of American Academy of Ophthalmology. He serves as a Program Committee Member for American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and is on the scientific board of World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS). He also deputy editor-in-chief of Ophthalmology Business Minute and is on the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s AAOE content committee.
Dr. Bhola is passionate about clinical research in inherited genetic disorders resulting in pediatric visual impairment and is on the Advisory Board of multiple companies researching gene therapy as a cure of blindness in this fragile population.
